The Athenaeum Club was formed in the late 18th century to provide a place to discuss trade and politics - away from the overcrowded coffee houses of Liverpool. So it's name is derived from the Greek goddess Athene - meaning wisdom.
Today the club has continues in the tradition of it's founders and has a newsroom, library and wonderful social and dining facilities to relax in this famous city.
The library is stunning, with over 60,000 volumes shelved in one of the most handsome rooms in Europe.
The club runs a busy social programme of cultural activities and seasonal celebrations.
The Athenaeum is proud of it's status as one of the best places to dine in Liverpool, serving a menu with the freshest ingredients in the quiet and intimate atmosphere of the club's dining room.
The Athenaeum extends a warm welcome to all reciprocal visitors.
