The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (RVYC), founded in 1903, is one of Canada’s premier yacht clubs, known for its exceptional sailing programs and extensive facilities. Situated in Vancouver, BC, with home ports at Jericho and Coal Harbour, RVYC has evolved into a year-round club with over 5,000 members. The club received its Royal Warrant in 1906 and has since expanded to include seven offshore stations, providing members with access to unique locations along the BC coast. The club promotes yachting, seamanship, and fellowship through a variety of events and programs, and it is committed to environmental sustainability, with all its marinas being Green Marine certified.
Social facilities
RVYC offers a variety of social amenities, including several dining options like the Star & Dragon restaurant at the Jericho Clubhouse and the Mermaid Inn at Coal Harbour. The club hosts regular social events, ranging from casual gatherings to formal banquets, with panoramic views of English Bay and Vancouver’s skyline. Members also have access to private event bookings and catering services.
Sailing and racing events
RVYC runs an extensive sailing program, offering training, cruising and competitive events for sailors of all levels. The club’s regatta calendar includes prominent events such as the Vic-Maui International Yacht Race, (cancelled in 2024 due to the fire in Lahaina Yacht Club, Hawaii) the WAVES Regatta, and the Commodore’s Cup. The sailing facilities are complemented by a dedicated race committee and support for various boat classes, ensuring a competitive sailing environment.
Mooring and marina facilities
RVYC’s marinas at Jericho and Coal Harbour offer top-tier facilities, including well-maintained berths, fuel services, and 24-hour access. The club’s offshore stations provide additional mooring options in scenic locations like Tugboat Island and Wigwam Inn, offering members secure and convenient access to some of BC’s most beautiful waters.
Visiting the club
Visitors from recognized yacht clubs are welcome at RVYC’s home ports. The club provides dining and marina services to guests, though it is recommended to contact the club in advance to arrange dock space. RVYC maintains a dress code and other policies to ensure a pleasant experience for all members and visitors.
