The Real Club Marítimo del Abra, located in Las Arenas, Getxo, was established in 1902 and later merged with the Real Sporting Club in 1972 to form the current club. The club is one of Spain’s most prestigious maritime institutions, offering a wide array of nautical activities and maintaining a strong tradition in competitive sailing. The club’s facilities, rebuilt after the original building was destroyed in 1973, include modern amenities such as a restaurant, lounges, a gym, a heated pool, and a marina with 300 berths. The club also runs the José Luis de Ugarte Sailing School, which has become a cornerstone in the development of young sailors, training around 1,000 children annually.

Real Club Marítimo del Abra hosts several prestigious national and international sailing events, including the Regata Costa Vasca-Trofeo Ballena de Oro, Campeonato de Vizcaya de Cruceros, and the International Women’s Sailing Cup. The club is known for its active participation in the J80 and cruising classes, organizing numerous regattas that attract high levels of participation.

Beyond sailing, the club offers a variety of activities through its José Luis de Ugarte Sailing School, which provides courses ranging from basic navigation to advanced yachting qualifications. The club also engages in social activities, including language courses, bridge and mus championships, and various cultural events in collaboration with local institutions.

The club's marina in Las Arenas offers 300 berths, accommodating boats between 6 and 25 meters in length. The marina is equipped with essential services including water, electricity, and WiFi, ensuring a comfortable stay for both local and visiting yachts.
