Cruising Club of America
About Cruising Club of America
Founded in 1922, the Cruising Club of America (CCA) is a prominent organization dedicated to promoting offshore sailing, seamanship, and ocean conservation. Unlike many yacht clubs, the CCA does not have a permanent clubhouse; instead, its members gather across 14 stations and posts throughout North America and Bermuda. The club is renowned for organizing the biennial Newport Bermuda Race, one of the most prestigious offshore races. The CCA emphasizes safety at sea, offering training and resources to help sailors prepare for the challenges of ocean cruising. The club's members, who are selected by invitation based on their ocean sailing accomplishments, contribute to an extensive body of knowledge shared through publications, seminars, and cruising guides.
Social facilities
While the CCA lacks a physical clubhouse, its members frequently organize local gatherings and cruises through its stations. These events provide opportunities for members to share experiences, enhance their seamanship skills, and build lasting friendships within the sailing community.
Sailing and racing events
The CCA is best known for co-organizing the Newport Bermuda Race, a premier East Coast ocean race. In addition, the club hosts various cruises and educational seminars focused on ocean safety, navigation, and boat handling, reflecting its commitment to advancing the sport of offshore sailing.
Visiting the club
As a decentralized organization, the CCA does not have a single location for visitors. However, those interested in the club's activities or membership can connect with members at one of the CCA’s regional stations or during events like the Newport Bermuda Race.
Around the club
The CCA’s stations are spread across key sailing regions, including the East and West Coasts of the United States, Bermuda, and the Great Lakes. Each station offers unique opportunities for cruising and participation in local maritime events, enriching the broader CCA community.
