Founded in 1922, the Balboa Yacht Club (BYC) in Corona del Mar, Newport Beach began as the Southland Sailing Club on the shores of the Balboa Peninsula and has since evolved into a prominent figure in Southern California's yachting scene.
The club's location near the entrance of Newport Harbor provides a prime, protected anchorage for its fleet. BYC's facilities include a main dining room, outdoor seating, a pavilion with a barbecue and snack bar, mooring cans, wet and dry boat slips, and a satellite facility at Whites Landing on Santa Catalina Island. This facility offers a small anchorage, beach, tents for overnight stays, kayaks, and a volleyball court. The club is hosts multiple fleets and national and international regattas, including the annual Governor's Cup, a youth match racing sailing regatta. BYC's junior sailing program is extensive, offering summer sailing, racing programs, and events for sailors of all abilities. The club's members have achieved success in various yachting competitions, maintaining its reputation for excellence in sailing.
